Welcome!

Venice has 'captured' the heart, mind and imagination of so many writers, poets, artists and historians. Venice is one of my favourite subjects in art, literature and history, and I am always eager to learn more and look more at this unique and special place. This Venice blog is my way of collecting the wealth of images, poems, prose and impressions of Venice.

Calle del Verrocchio, Castello

I can't resist Verrocchio's statue of condottiere Bartolomeo Colleoni (you can read more about this mercenary and his statue here).  I always enjoy looking up the horse, and enjoying the colours of the marble plinth.

I really like trying to see as much of the detail of the horse as I can, from my vantage point at ground level (and I'm not very tall, so I'm sadly quite close to ground level!).

I took a peek at the nearby Calle del Verrocchio to see what there was to see...

It was quite residential and quiet...

I turned my back on the calle, and headed back to toward the campo and looked up to this fantastic view of Colleoni's statue.
